Cornucopia Thanksgiving Craft for Kids of All Ages

Your kids will love making this cornucopia filled with the things they are most thankful for! I use this craft for my students in class and with my own children at home. It is a wonderful activity that prompts kids to reflect on all that they are thankful for.

This Cornucopia Thanksgiving printable craft comes with a short informational passage, “The Bountiful Cornucopia,” which gives kids background information about the cornucopia, it’s origin, how it is made, and what it is filled with. There are six questions provided with the passage to develop reading comprehension skills with an informational text.

For younger children, I would recommend pairing this activity with a fun picture book about gratitude, like Thankful by Eileen Spinelli or Thanks for Thanksgiving by Julie Markes. You can read more about these fantastic Thanksgiving picture books below!

After reading all about the cornucopia (and engaging in a fun read aloud about gratitude if you choose), encourage kids to reflect on the many things they are thankful for. Allow them to write on the items that will go into the cornucopia basket. The cornucopia printable comes with a gourd, corn, grapes, apples, and pumpkins.

The kids can then color or decorate the variety of fruits and vegetables before cutting them out. The final step is to arrange these fruits and vegetables to fill the cornucopia before gluing them.

The finished product is a bountiful harvest of gratitude for your students to proudly display! I like to use these as a bulletin board display for November. They also make great door decor. My kiddos at home like to proudly display their cornucopias in their room!

My top picks to build background about gratitude with the younger children are Thankful by Eileen Spinelli and Thanks for Thanksgiving by Julie Markes. In Thankful, Eileen Spinelli demonstrates what it means to be thankful for everyday blessings. Young children will particularly enjoy the rhyming and beautiful illustrations in this book.
